Original oil on board, 41cm X 30cm, copied by Jin Shangyi from the Mogao Caves at Dunhuang in 1978.
The north wall of the main chamber of Cave 220 (early Tang dynasty) is a huge mural based on the Buddha’s Sutra of the Medicine Buddha. It has been described as one of the most beautiful of Dunhuang’s frescoes. In the centre of the mural are four small bodhisattvas The four small bodhisattvas are seated cross-legged in front of a lamp tower.
